Maintaining a good skin care routine is not only vital to radiant looking skin on your wedding day, it also provides the best canvas for makeup application that lasts all day. Follow our guide to planning in your skin care program into your overall wedding plans to ensure your skin is looking its best for your big day.

6 months before your wedding

If you’re new to professional-grade skin care, start with visiting your local Professional Skin Therapist at least 6 months before the wedding. This will give you adequate time to work on any skin challenges and establish a good regimen. It’s also advisable to schedule in a few Pro skin treatments, either a series of peels or other advanced treatments like Pro Microneedling and Luminfusion to get your skin into its peak condition.

Your skin therapist will advise you of the best treatment plan for your individual skin’s needs and prescribe the correct home care products to maintain treatment results and keep your skin healthy and glowing for the big day. Find your nearest Dermalogica Expert here.

2–3 months before your wedding

This is considered a very tense time for brides. Ensure you dedicate time to your overall health and wellbeing to reduce stress levels. Remember, skin responds negatively to prolonged stress. Stress hormones can influence breakout activity, sensitivity, and pigmentation. Fuel your body with nutritious foods and plenty of water and take time to relax to keep stress levels to a minimum.

1 month before your wedding

Avoid any new or extreme treatment as your skin may react unfavourably. Your final professional skin treatment should be at least three to four days before the wedding. Results from that service can be maintained with a focus on mild exfoliation and lots of hydration. If you're booking a waxing appointment, do it no less than two days before your wedding to allow any redness to dissipate.

Your wedding day!

Keep your regimen simple with the products you’ve been using for the last few weeks. A gentle exfoliant can help smooth skin prior to makeup application. And ensure you have layered a few light hydrating products plus SPF and leave skin for at least 10 minutes before applying makeup.

Also, pack an emergency bag with essentials to top up makeup such as concealer and include a travel-size mist to refresh and rehydrate your face throughout the day.
